Ratafia

Ratafia is a traditional Catalan liqueur seasoned with lemon peel, four or five carnations, nutmeg, a broken green walnut peel and a stick of Dutch cinnamon, to which some also add a sprout of mint and lemon verbena. Many people make it with about fifty more herbs in addition to the ones mentioned above. Ratafia is traditionally made around the festival of Sant Joan in June, which is when the herbs are at their best (although it is sometimes also done around All Saints' Day in November) and is drunk starting from Christmas. Who said ice cream is just for the summer? This will warm you up for sure. Christmas get-togethers at Baboia from now on.

Most sources agree that the name Ratafia comes from the Latin expression "must be delivered" (whatever it takes), spoken with the glass of liquor raised to “ratify” a verbal agreement.
